Chicago, IL--Among all the new packaging and shipping equipment innovations on display at PMMI’s Pack Expo, one that really stands out is a new and surprisingly simple table-top carton sealer from Better Case Sealers, LLC.
The new unit, dubbed the “Rapid Packer” is the latest of a new generation of manually powered, semi-automatic carton sealers developed by BCS, and is described by the company as offering users the “Fastest, Simplest and most Economical Way to properly Seal Cartons.”
About the size of a common gummed tape dispenser (8“ wide by 24“ long and weighing only 17lbs.), the Rapid Packer automatically centers, applies and cuts pressure sensitive tape to exactly the right length as the operator slides random sized cartons over the tape head. There are no motors, no adjustments or fiddling, operators just “slide, stop and drop” the carton across the sealing head in a smooth, natural movement and get a perfectly sealed carton every time!
Because tape length is automatically determined by the carton sliding over the tape head, the machine properly seals any carton size the operator can comfortably handle. As one prospective user described the operation, “you don’t even have to think about it, you just do it!”
A company spokesperson pointed out that the goal was to bring the speed, convenience and accuracy of automatic tape application to users who can’t justify the expense of more traditional case sealers and want to avoid the quality and consistency vagaries that often plague users of the ubiquitous tape gun and even semi-automatic gummed tape dispensers. With an anticipated price of “about $650” the Rapid packer appears to be well below the price point of traditional automatic case sealers and even most of the electric gummed tape dispensers.
